Founding Full-Stack Engineer
Own the product surface end to end — the client portal, the automation layer, and the internal tooling our operations team runs on.
DeskFlow runs a real back office for small companies: bookkeeping, payroll, HR paperwork, vendor management, the work that quietly eats a founder's week. Some of it is judgment. A lot of it is not, and that part should be software.
You would be the first engineering hire, working directly on the product our own operations team uses every day. That is an unusual and useful position — your users sit in the same company, and the feedback loop is measured in hours.
This is a broad role by necessity. Next.js and TypeScript on the front, Postgres and server actions behind it, integrations with the accounting and payroll systems our clients already live in. You will not be handed a narrow slice.
What you would do
- Build and own features across the client portal, the staff console, and the automation layer
- Design the data model and integrations behind new back-office workflows
- Turn recurring manual operations work into software, in priority order set by what our own team is spending time on
- Keep the production surface healthy — errors, performance, and the boring reliability work that makes a service business trustworthy
- Set the engineering conventions the next hires will inherit
What we are looking for
- Several years building and shipping production web applications, with real ownership of what you shipped
- Strong TypeScript, and fluency with a modern React framework (we use Next.js)
- Comfortable designing relational schemas and writing the queries against them
- Able to work from a business problem rather than a ticket — most of what you build here starts as an operational complaint, not a spec
- Authorized to work in the United States
Nice to have, genuinely optional
- Worked at a company small enough that you talked to customers directly
- Integrated with accounting, payroll, or document systems (QuickBooks, Xero, Gusto, Rippling, and their kind)
- Experience with Postgres row-level security or another real authorization model
Not sure you are a match?
Apply anyway. The requirements describe the problem rather than a checklist, and the application asks you two questions that tell us far more than a bullet list ever does.
